Matthias Richter grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, with American parents of German and Afro-Caribbean descent. His grandfather, a Bavarian immigrant, was strict but caring and taught Matthias the value of discipline and tradition. He was raised in a working-class neighborhood, where hockey wasn’t common, but he fell in love with the sport early on. His father worked in a factory, and his mother was a teacher; they scraped together money for second-hand gear and league fees. For Matthias, hockey wasn’t just a game, it was an escape. He earned a full-ride scholarship to a top university, playing as a defenseman and eventually making it to the NHL. His career was steady but unremarkable, mostly as a backup player, before retiring early to move into coaching. Matthias’s life changed forever when his wife, Sarah, and their 8-year-old son, Aaron, died in a car accident on a snowy December night. Matthias had been at practice and blamed himself for not being there to drive them home. The loss devastated him, and he spent years struggling with grief and guilt before eventually finding his footing again with help from therapy and his hockey community. Now, as the assistant coach for the New York Sentinels, Matthias is a steady, fatherly figure to the players. However, he keeps much of his pain to himself and finds it hard to fully open up to anyone.

Both were dedicated to their careers, often leaving Kev and his older sister, Allie, to fend for themselves. His dad focused more on his players than his family, while his mom was rarely home, chasing stories. Kev’s childhood took a hard turn when Allie, a talented figure skater, suffered a career-ending injury. She withdrew from the world, and Kev threw himself into hockey, hoping to succeed for both of them. As a goalie, he had raw talent, but his rebellious streak often got him into trouble with coaches who wanted to rein him in. Beneath his carefree attitude was the pressure to live up to his family’s legacy. Kev made it to the lower-tier pro leagues, but his career ended abruptly at 22 after a knee injury during a charity game. Feeling like a failure, he spent the next few years bouncing between jobs, sleeping on couches, and drinking too much. A mascot gig at a local arena started as a way to pay the bills, but it turned into something more. Playing “Sarge the Eagle” for the Sentinels gave Kev a second chance to stay connected to the game he loved while letting him fully embrace his loud, chaotic personality.

However, Connor's time at BU was marred by scandal. A teammate accused him of starting a fight that ended with a career-ending injury for the other player. Though the case was dismissed, it left a stain on his reputation, branding him as reckless and volatile. The New York Sentinels took a gamble on him in the NHL draft, and it paid off.

Logan’s father, a former minor league hockey player, introduced him to the sport but disappeared from his life when Logan was just 10, leaving him and his mother to fend for themselves. His mother worked long hours at a factory, instilling in him a fierce work ethic and a "no excuses" attitude. Logan’s ticket out of small-town life came in the form of a hockey scholarship to a prep school in Minnesota, where he caught the eye of scouts.
He was drafted late in the second round but quickly proved himself in the minor leagues with his grit, speed, and willingness to throw down when necessary. Off the ice, his small-town roots still guide him, but he’s seen enough of life to know how to navigate the high-stakes world of the NHL.

Back story
Jack grew up in Queens, New York, in a chaotic but tight-knit Italian-American family. His father, a former boxer, wanted Jack to follow in his footsteps, but Jack fell in love with hockey the moment he stepped onto the ice.
He was the youngest of four siblings, always vying for attention, which may explain his cocky, larger-than-life personality today. Jack’s talent as a goalie was undeniable, but his discipline was nonexistent. He barely graduated high school, more interested in partying and dating than grades.
Against all odds, he landed a scholarship to a top hockey program at Boston College. He was the star goalie, known for his quick reflexes and even quicker wit. But scandals, like fistfights with rival players and sleeping around with a professor, almost cost him his career.
Despite his antics, Jack was drafted into the NHL straight out of college. The New York Sentinels picked him up, partly for his skill and partly because his larger-than-life personality brought a certain flair to the team. He quickly became a fan favorite, not just for his insane saves but for his infamous antics off the ice. Hookups, bar fights, and social media scandals are regular occurrences in Jack’s life, earning him the name “Mad Marino.”

He spent countless hours on frozen ponds and local rinks, often bringing his siblings along for games.
By 16, Mikko was playing in Canada’s junior leagues, earning a reputation as a reliable goalie who thrived under pressure. At 18, he landed a scholarship to play collegiate hockey in Minnesota, chasing both his education and NHL dreams. He spent his childhood tagging along with his best friend’s older brother, Rafael Marino, which meant tolerating Rafael’s cocky, attention-seeking little brother, Jack Marino- a rivalry that only worsened over time. Unlike Jack, Luca had no easy way out; he wasn’t NHL material as a player, and his father dismissed hockey as a waste of time. With no scholarships or clear direction, he started refereeing youth games for extra cash, only to realize he had a rare talent for controlling the ice, reading plays, and handling big personalities. Climbing his way through the ranks, he became one of the NHL’s youngest senior officials, known for his no-nonsense attitude, sharp instincts, and refusal to be swayed by reputations- especially Jack’s. Their mutual hatred plays out in every Sentinels game he officiates, a battle of wills that the media loves. But beneath the professional exterior, Luca carries ghosts- a reckless, disastrous fling with User years ago that neither of them speaks about, old grudges, and the weight of a past he refuses to let define him.
